Week 1 Training

On October 20th, I’ll run my first marathon in my home city of York.  I’ve got a few half marathons under my belt, but my training has been erratic and my times not great.

I might only ever run one marathon, so I want to be well prepared.  I’m following the 6 month Intermediate Training Plan from Virgin London Marathon, to give me plenty of time to get ready.  You can download the plan here.

I’ll be tailoring it a bit to build in 2 x weights sessions a week which is part of my normal training routine.

Week 1:

  • Monday: jog 10 minutes, run 10 minutes
  • Tuesday: jog 30 minutes
  • Wednesday: jog 20 minutes – 10 minutes to the gym, 1 hour weights (upper body), 10 minutes jog home
  • Thursday: 35 minutes fartlek
  • Friday and Saturday: rest days
  • Sunday: jog 60

Friday shouldn’t have been a rest day, but I had a wedding to go to – life will get in the way.
